How to update your IQ Firmware

This article explains why firmware updates matter for your iQ dash cam, shows you how to check for and install updates using the iQ app, and provides tips and troubleshooting steps if an update fails or does not appear.

Why update your iQ firmware?

Firmware updates keep your iQ running smoothly and securely. Common reasons for updates include:

  • Adding new features.
  • Fixing software issues.
  • Supporting new languages.
  • Improving app connections.

Always install the latest firmware to avoid issues from outdated software.

How do I update my iQ firmware?

Follow these steps to check for and install updates:

  1. Open the iQ app.
  2. Tap the More button (three lines or three dots at the bottom right of the app)
  3. Select iQ Settings.
  4. Tap Firmware Update.

If an update is available, the app will prompt you to select Update. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it. Your iQ may restart during the process.

Extra tips

  • Connect your phone to Wi-Fi for faster downloads.
  • Keep your iQ powered on and in a strong 4G signal area during updates.
  • Check for updates weekly or after noticing app issues.
  • Updates install automatically during initial iQ setup if available.

Troubleshooting

  • If no update option appears but you suspect one is available, force close the app and try again.
  • If the download fails, check your internet connection, move to better 4G coverage, and try again.
  • If the update gets stuck, safely power cycle your iQ (turn vehicle off/on) and resume from Firmware Update.
  • If your iQ restarts but features do not work after updating, force close the app, reopen, and check the firmware version in settings.
  • If errors persist, note the exact error message and contact Nextbase support with your iQ model, current firmware version, app version, and signal strength at the time.
