What is a ferrite core?
A ferrite core is a magnet that is specifically designed to help reduce electromagnetic interference. This means that ferrite cores are fantastic for reducing radio interference caused by electrical noise.
How to install a ferrite core
To work correctly, a ferrite core must be installed with a loop in the cable, the cable must pass through the magnetic, loop around and come back through. Please take a look at the example shown below. We recommend installing the core approximately 6 inches (15.2cm) from the Dash Cam itself.
What to do if you install a ferrite core, but still experience radio interference
- Try re-routing your Dash Cam cable(s) away from it's current position, as it may be routed near the aerial cable.
- Move the camera to different positions on the window. In some vehicles, certain areas of the window may be more susceptible to interference than other areas.
All of our devices are well below Elecro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards worldwide, although unfortunately some car radio systems are extremely sensitive and are far more susceptible to interference than others. If you have tried the steps listed above please contact your vehicle manufacturer for some advice.
If your vehicle manufacture is not able to fix the issue, we recommend using a mobile radio app instead of the built in DAB or FM radio.
